Education Program
Concerned at the limited number of lectures being given to trainee teachers on the knowledge of, and selection and use of quality children’s books in WA classrooms, CBCA WA (initiated by Lefki Kailis) has worked towards being invited to conduct guest seminars in University Education Courses.
For specific information about the program's content, including handouts, see:
Books, Reading and Young People
The program now includes most schools of education in WA universities, including Edith Cowan, Murdoch, Notre Dame and the University of Western Australia. While only extending to one session each, it is hoped these seminars will alert beginning teachers to strategies for selection and use of quality literature in the classroom.
CBCA WA committee members conducting these seminars are all teacher-librarians with broad and deep knowledge of children’s and young adult literature as well as an understanding of teaching strategies.
